David Saphra - the music of the lyra viol
David Saphra has been active as a professional double bass player in the New York area since the early 1970's.
His activities have ranged between Cecil Taylor's jazz orchestra to Connecticut's Ridgefield Symphony as well as MUSE-early music chamber ensemble, having played with the latter two since the early 1990's and 1980's, respectively. Having retired from 26 years as a music teacher in the New York City public schools, he is now devoting much of his time to disseminating the many children's songs he has written over the years, as well as on-line archival of early music facsimiles within his area of specialization. For more than 30 years, David has been actively involved with research and mastery of the lyra viol and maintains the web site lyraviol.org. The viol is a family of 16th - 18th century string instruments different from the violin family, with six or seven strings instead of four. The special category of lyra viol employs many tuning systems in order to achieve different sonorities and qualities of resonance.

Opera Company of the Highlands
Hudson Valley New York's acclaimed opera company. In the spring 2005, the founding board for the Opera Company of the Highlands was established, and the company operates as an independent non-profit, professional performing arts company, taking organizational leave of Festival Theatre of New York, but never departing from its original spirit of excellence and service in the arts. From the laying of the set to the final curtain, many people help make a production of the OCH go well. Since its inaugural season in 2005, OCH has put on over a half a dozen full scale operas, largely with the help of both professional musicians, set designers, costumers, and community volunteers. However, no opera would be successful without the audience and sponsor that both enjoy the performance and ensure that future productions are possible.
